Highly doubt they would re-release the old GoPro Studio as it was very unstable, couldn't handle the higher resolutions/frame rates, was more cumbersome in that you had to render the videos before editing, and it didn't support HEVC.
Will GoPro come out with a new desktop editing software? I hope not. For such a small company with less than 1,000 employees worldwide, they should be keeping their resources on camera development, mobile software, and cloud solutions. If anything, a simple cloud editor would be a great addition.
As far as desktop editing, with so many high quality and professional video editors available (many for free), why anyone would want one created by a camera company instead of a software company is beyond me. GoPro didn't even create Studio. They purchased it and then made it free. The Quik desktop editing software was their attempt to make a desktop editor. I suspect that most, if not all, of the engineers that worked on it are long gone.
Is it that GoPro doesn't care or has no interest in providing a desktop solution? NO. However, considering that GoPro hasn't had a full year of profits in five years, and has only just this last quarter made any money, it would be pretty stupid to be throwing money at developing desktop editing when money is already tight.
GoPro is not some huge company basking in cash. The CEO makes $1 a year in salary. Yes, they do make incredible cameras and the HERO7 Black is revolutionary and top in class with the absolute best stabilized 4K/60fps video in a durable and waterproof camera. Yes, GoPro is a worldwide brand name. However, this doesn't equate to unlimited funds and resources. They are still a relatively small company.
Is GoPro working on a new desktop solution? Probably. However, it is probably a very small group of engineers who most likely have other responsibilities as well. GoPro may release a new desktop software. They also may not. Even when GoPro Studio was available, most people didn't use it, especially with so many better options available.
If you don't like the Quik Desktop editor, fine. Don't use it. The mobile apps are very good and offer more options. If you want to edit on your desktop, get a proper non-linear editor.
