Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

Sorry I didn't. Luckily I have Adobe Elements on my computer and I decided to spend my time learning that rather than messing around with this. Previous commenters said they had luck downgrading, to what version I don't know.

Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

Ditto, ditto and ditto!!  GoPro had me send them the results of a diagnostic test I ran following the simple instructions they provided. They are supposed to respond within 24 hours. I'll give them 48.

Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

To all reading this thread,

If you’re using GoPro Studio version 2.5.7.549, update immediately! This issue was addressed months ago and has been found/fixed on recent versions of the software.

Go to http://shop.gopro.com/softwareandapp/gopro-app-%7C-desktop/GoPro-Desktop-App.html and download the latest version of GoPro Studio which comes bundled with GoPro App for Desktop. If you cannot install this due to OS compatibility, then download the last stable version, 2.5.6.509.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you upgrade or downgrade you will need to delete the app settings file on your computer BEFORE continuing work on your projects. This is a hidden folder, so you will have to manually type it into the address bar. To display hidden files in Windows Explorer,

  • Open your control panel and search for the word "hidden".
  • You'll see two results show up and the top one will show "Folder Options".
  • Click on the line below it that shows "Show hidden files and folders", then you'll see a checklist show up after that.
  • Be sure to select the bubble that says "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Once that is complete, go to “C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\GoPro” in Windows Explorer and you should be able to find the Appsettings file. Also, be sure to replace “{username}” with your computer's login name.

If you do not delete app settings, then you can still experience crashing issues.

Hope this helps!

Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

Sorry to tell that above advise didn't fix the issue.

Are there any clip count or video length limitations in this SW ?

Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

After hours of GoPro and Geek Squad Support I thought I had the GP Studio crashing problem solved.  It worked fine until it didn't and I think the crash is happening after a significant amount of work on a new video is in progress so the program is handling a lot of information, which apparently it can't. That said, I am saving the project almost every minute or two of work so I don't lose everything.

I have Windows 10. Any input if that is contributing to the problem??  Is GP working on a fix?

Re: Go Pro Studio not saving, crashing and not loating

Hey @Anonymous,

There's a definite clip limitation in GoPro Studio. In Step 1's import/conversion bin, it's strongly suggested that you never have more than 10 clips in each of these bins at once. Also keep in mind that having clips in these bins take up memory in your project files which means that RAM is also being utilized at the same time. In other words, the more clips that are in your project, the more RAM being used at once. Since GoPro Studio is a 32-bit program, it will never use more than 3.5GB of RAM before it crashes. With those things in mind, the tool should never crash on you.

@Anonymous,

GoPro Studio works fine with Windows 10, and I believe my response above is relative to what you were talking about. As long as you're removing clips when you no longer need them, then you'll be fine, but once GoPro Studio reaches that 3GB memory point while in use, the tool can very well crash. If you'd like, you can actually monitor the process within the task manager as you edit to see how much memory is being used at once.
