I had quite a specific problem and was able to solve it after couple days. After reading through multiple posts here I have not seen anything similar so wanted to post it in case it helps anybody :)
So I used GoPro Fusion to shoot sunrise for about 35 minutes. Downloaded all files on my external drive, but unfortunately there were some bad sectors on the drive and 2 files (1 LRV and 1 MP4) were affected. I could not copy them from the drive to other location and Fusion app was refusing to open whole video. The worst thing was that mp4 file seemed to be intact - I could open it in preview and watch almost whole video - it was running up to 1:07, then stopping, but if I ipened it again and went beyond that time mark, it would play further. So I knew that main footage is OK and the main thing I need is to get it off that corrupted drive.
Anyway, so I used ddrescue to recover both files and copy to new drive. Both files seemed to be OK, mp4 file was playing nicely in quicktime (just small glitch at time mark where bad sectors were), however fusion studio was still refusing to open it. After couple minutes I figured that LRV file is most likely still corrupted. As this was the full 7 min clip, I tried taking another LRV file from previous clip, copying and renaming it so that it was used instead of corrupted one - and voilaaaa!!! FUSION STUDIO OPENED IT! :) I was so glad - and of course the only problem is that now your preview in app shows preview from different clip, but the footage is processed properly.
Although it will not solve the case if you have problem with main mp4 file, it could be a valid solution in case you are missing lrv files - you can just replace them with some others and ignore the preview and have footage processed (although I guess that the lrv file has to have same length than your clip).
I do not know why studio really needs those files and wont open original footage without - it could just say that preview is not available...
Hope this helps somebody :)
