Ok so I've tested with:
MacOS Version: 10.12.6
Model: MacBook Pro (Retina 13-inch, Early 2015)
Processor: Intel Core i5 2.7Ghz
Memory: 16Gb 1867MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6100 1536Mb
And it works. My Mac needs more juice
What do you think it makes the difference in Fusion Studio, GPU or Memory?

I followed this advice and just spent $10K on a Macbook pro - 6 Core i9 2018 model. 32gb DDR Ram
Same issue - The Fusion app continues to crash even before I select which video's I want to render.
The video's are on my HDD so there are so Read/Write speed issues.
This is so frustrating - Surely GoPro needs to solve this quick smart!!

I don't understand why with my new MacBook Pro 15 Mid-2018 with Top of the line Video Card and 32GB RAM the Fusion Studio keeps crashing and with my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 and 2015 iMac 5K the Fusion Studio works like a charm???

I am sorry for any troubles this may have caused.
This issue has already been raised to the team in charge.
I'll post back on this thread as soon as we have some updates.
