While I agree that the Quic is lacking and still waiting for Dashware to include data extraction from the 5, you have to remember that what you are asking is a big ask.
Editing sevral clips AND having a running overlay is no means easy. Think about it, each clip is linked to the footage to show the correct map/speed, the moment you cut a clip, that sync goes out the window. Think of syncing sound with multi cam from a concert. Fairly easy as sound is seperate track, whereas gps data has to be overlayed.
I can be done, but not with any existing software. Even if you have a seprate gps file, you still have to get it overlayed and synced with the footage.
GPS overlays are best for constant footage of a run, race or whatever.
(btw, check out RaceRender)

I don't think you understood my post. I do NOT like Quik, for the very reason, that you listed as it being "difficult software to make". I do NOT want short cuts and edits. I do NOT want my video to look like everyone else's. I do NOT want short video clips with overlays. What I do, and the kinds of videos I make, that would benefit from telemetry overlays, would require LONGER edits, LONGER videos. I downloaded RaceRender and couldn't figure out what it was or how it worked. Does is work with the GPS data gather from the Hero 5?

Nevermind. I found out how to do EXACTLY what I wanted. I actually found it by getting on YouTube and searching for "RaceRender". There were videos on how to do overlays using the GoPro Quik Software. :)

Was looking for this as well.
Double click the media clip. Do NOT hit create.
You can add the overlays to the enitre clip.
Use the scisors Icon to create clip. Not Share.
depending on clip length It takes a long time to render.
still a rough work flow.

I too am tremendously dissappointed that the data is there and unuseable. I don't care about some fake song no one has heard of anddif I am hitting 200mph on the straighhts and 60 on corners over racecourse I want to see the whole course, hear the tire squeal and engine and compare G's to the cars onboard G-meter. Is there another software package that can use the date GP5 seems to track and keep hidden, well all but 60 seconds?

I use www.dashware.net for the overlay, then into an editing program for further editing add music etc.
Dashware is free (its actually owened by Gopro)
Anther one is RaceRender, but that costs about $50. Free version has some limitations.

this is so backwards - trying to edit a movie with gaugs. i want to import my files into imovie but i can only add 60 second clips. why on earth. i also find quik really hard to use. you cant really select the clips you want.
should have bought the Garmin.
