We actually did a test with a number of HERO7 Black cameras. We recorded in portrait, but the playback in portrait was fine and viewable like how it is on the camera. Rotating the file 90 degrees shifts the orientation accordingly without image distortion. If there is one available, try using a different card, or a different computer to further isolate the issue. If it persists, our team at https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs will be able to assist you further. Thanks!

I have exactly the same issue with GoPro Quik version 188.8.131.525.
Got a new Go Pro 7 Silver, clipped it to the side of the helmet, recorded a ride (about 15 minutes), then went to do the most basic edit with Quik desktop - just to snip a 15s portion of the video.
Really suprised that the most basic first video edit I tried was distorted, so tried a number of different settings (saving as 1080p 30fps), with all saved edited footage completed unwatchable due to this issue.
After reading this thread, I tested with a short landscape footage; and it worked perfectly.
After a bit of testing, I think this is a basic defect in functionality as:
- Simple edits of the same portrait (vertically aligned) footage in GoPro Quik, works OK (but slower with less space on my Android phone, so I want to use my laptop)
- Simple edits of the same portrait footage in another tools (I tried VLC for a quick test) works
- Using the Desktop Quik app, the videos are consistently distorted to an unwatchable extent
I am suprised this is not reproducable by your testers. It seems pretty straightforward to me; record in portrait, edit in Go Pro Quik for Desktop (latest version of Windows 10 64-bit), save a short clip and observable.
As somebody who works in Software Dev I know some bugs are not easy to reproduce easily, so is there anything I can do to assist getting this fixed? It kills for me the easy and enjoyment of my new Go Pro. I am happy to share before and after footage, and/or machine specs. Alternative would be to create a Windows 10 VM and see if it can be reproduced in a clean environment that your testers can use.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Does the same happen when editing using a different application?
You may also test this with Quik for mobile.
Let us know how it goes.
