I trimmed a clip from my Hero 7 using guesswork because GoPro didn't think to add time codes to trimming! I wanted to convert it from 4k60fps to 1080p because my iMac isn't up to the job of editing 4K HEVC.
After trimming the clip and saving it to edits I wanted to then add the telemetry guages but it won't let me because it says it is not a GoPro video!
The clip was of some drifting so the GPS showed the layout but due to slight differences in the racing line over multiple runs I have multiple lines in the layout. I though by trimming the clip I would have tidier GPS tracking but because GoPro don't know how to write decent software I cant do this.
I love the hardware but the GoPro ruin it with crap software and it seems they make it difficult to do it using other software. Even GoPro Studio wont recognise the clips.
Sort it out GoPro, we pay a lot of money for the hardware get some decent software to support it!

For more advanced GPS overlay data, you can use GoPro's Dashware https://gopro.com/help/articles/how_to/How-to-Overlay-Telemetry-from-GoPro-Cameras-in-Dashware or you can try RaceRender. I prefer RaceRender myself, but others have reported liking Dashware better, so I think it's just a matter of preference.
Studio is EOL https://gopro.com/help/articles/question_answer/GoPro-Studio-End-of-Life-FAQ and not up to spec to handle HERO6 or HERO7 videos.
Finally, you are writing on a member to member community support site. WE are not GoPro. WE cannot sort out the software or your under powered computer system.
If you would like to leave feedback for GoPro, you can do so here https://gopro.com/feedback

Thanks for the info it is much appreciated and I know this isn't GoPro employees but I was just hoping that GoPro see the post anyway.
I prefer these forums becuase there are so many knowledgable people on them who are not necessarily biased to GoPro
The problem with putting the guages on before trimming the clip is that the car did multiple runs so there are multiple lines on the track layout where the car deviated off the line a little. I was hoping that by only grabbing the clip I wanted I would only get the GPS telemetry for that small clip.
I hope that makes sense :)

You should check out this post and see if it helps (or the members posting to it). There is a lot of information given, but you should be able to extract and customize the data in a way that will work for you. https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Metadata-Visualization/Extracting-the-metadata-in-a-useful-form...
