Try pulling the battery and SD card and then holding the side Power (mode) button for one minute. Format your SD card in your computer leaving the label (name) blank. Download the manual update and put the extracted Update folder (not Update.zip) on the SD card. Put just the battery into the camera and press and hold the power button until the camera powers on. Check the battery level reading. If the battery is reading 75-100%, turn the camera off and remove the battery and again hold down the power button but this time for 20-30 seconds (you can do a minute but it shouldn't matter). Insert the SD card (blank except the Update Folder) and then the battery. If the update doesn't automatically start, press the side power button once. Wait for the update to complete. As long as you are using a recommended SD card (make/model/size/class) it should work for you.
ONLY USE ONE OF THESE CARDS

Glad to hear it's working for you. Sometimes it does take a few tries. Years ago my Hero3 Silver was giving me issues. I had been using a SanDisk Ultra (which I HIGHLY recommend against) and my camera was giving me nothing but issues. I switched to Lexar and did a manual update but it didn't work. I was very frustrated but went ahead and tried two more times. After the third try, the camera started working fine and I haven't had an issue since.
