unbelievable: software or hardware issue?

My Gopro Fusion, I bought may 2018, started to malfunction a couple of days ago..
Recording would not start, could hardly turn it off, reaction to the side button was very slow or absent. sometimes the message "Not in spec - camera not ready" appeared after an attempt to enter the settings menu..

Removing amd/or replacing battery, formatting and replacing both SD cards had no success...
By chance, I noticed the issue disappeared if the camera was powered  via USB....
I played a little with it, all the issues seemed to be gone...

I unplugged the USB and the camera was still Working good....

Then I pulled the battery out to charge it with an external charger, the problems came back...

In other words:

If powered via USB the camera works weil

if I remove the USB power, the camera keeps working well until I pull the battery out-In, after this,  the camera gets crazy again, until i connect the USB, play a little with it while externally powered.. and so on...

I've even reloaded the firmware (1.80) via  SD Card (while powered via USB), made factory default reset, but troubles came again...

What do you suggest?  I would not send it back for repair just during the Christmas period, I DO need it in this days, if no solution I will carry a powerbank with me and use it with the external power, but this is quite frustrating....

If you have already done a manual update (via SD card), already using recommended SD cards, and formatted such cards prior to use and the issue still occurs, please let our Fusion team know by contacting Support. Of course...  they asked me to send it back...  no other explanation....  I prefer to keep it during Xmas holidays..  i justy hoped in some help to understand this mystery and hopefully avoid a return for service....

I’m still having an issue with my Fusion - it does not even function as a camera I’m totally devastated ...

Ej- firstly thanks for offering assistance greatly appreciated- the issue I seem to come across continuously is this error message “NOT IN SPEC CAMERA NOT READY” sorry I’m only using caps as that’s how it’s displayed on the fusion. This error renders the camera inoperable, no video, no image and no connection to app. so it’s been rather frustrating my new experience with the camera.
