unable to connect to the internet

When I start the GoPro app on my cellphone I keep getting the prompt to do the update.  I follow the instructions to turn on Wifi on the camera but when I hit "Install" I get the message "We were unable to connect to the internet. Go to WiFi Settings to choose a network".  The Wifi on the phone is on and connected to the internet.  How do I continue with the installation of the update?
