not charging, charging lights not on

cannot charge the battery.  have tried three ways, using the included cable: plugged to a computer, plugged in to USB charger, and with a fully-charged battery pack.

no lights show and after waiting about 40 minutes with the battery pack, the camera does not turn on.

Re: not charging, charging lights not on

Hi @megaoasis37864

What camera are you using? Please disconnect any BacPac accessories or cables from the camera and also remove the camera's battery and microSD card.  Then, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Please reinsert the battery into the camera, then use the GoPro USB cable to connect your camera to a USB port directly on your computer or to a USB wall charger that outputs 5V and 1A (5V and 2A for HERO5/6 Black).
  2. Once connected to a charging source, you should see a red LED light up on the front of your camera within no more than a couple of minutes.  If you do not see a red LED illuminate on the front of your camera within 1-2 minutes, please try using a different USB cable and USB port or charger.  If you are unable to get the front red LED to illuminate with multiple known-good charging sources, please let me know if you happen to see any of the other red LEDs light up anywhere on the camera.
  3. Once you have the front red LED lit up, firmly press and release the Power button, and camera should power ON. If you cannot get the camera to power ON with this battery, please try using another battery for this test if you happen to have one available to you.
  4. If your camera powers ON with a different battery, then it's likely that your other battery is very low on charge, or has perhaps reached the end of its life.  Follow step #6 for charging the battery that was able to power the camera ON.
  5. If you do not have a secondary battery to try, please remove the battery in the camera and then connect the unit to your charging source (USB port directly on your computer, or 5V 1A wall charger). Although the red LED will not illuminate, try pressing the Power Button to see if the camera is able to power on.
  6. Disconnect your camera from the USB cable and remove the battery (if present), then reinsert the battery into your camera once more, then follow our recommended charging procedure

If all else fails, please reach out to our Support Team for assistance. https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs

If this is a newly purchased camera, you may refer to the same store/channel you got it from.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: not charging, charging lights not on

thanks for the reply.  it is a brand-new Hero6 Black.  i have not attached any accessories to the camera.  I have tried removing and reinserting the battery several times, and have tried charging using three methods:

1) using a known good USB charger with the USB cable that came with the camera.

2) using that same cable with a battery pack.

3) using the same cable with a computer.

I have tried removing the MicroSD card.  i have never seen one to tightly ensconced, and cannot remove it with a fingernail or a small screwdriver.

all three of these devices charge an iPhone, so it is not the charging device.

the problem is either the cable or the camera.

no lights have ever shown up.  i am planning on return the camera to the store and exchaning it for one that isn't defective.

Re: not charging, charging lights not on

i exchanged it at the store, and the new camera works just fine. I am having trouble getting good video of myself swimming, but the problem is where to position the camera, not anything about the camera.
the iPhone App is not very good - it's not intuitive. it made a video by downloading about 10% of the video on the camera and added some really terrible music. i did that because I wanted to view the video before getting back to my computer. next time i will bring a laptop and transfer directly to the computer. looks like the best way is to use a card reader.
i would mark this as closed, but don't see how to do that on this page.
