got my Hero 5 today. But seem to have problems with the GPS Signal. The GPS symbol on the main screen always stays grey, never turns white. How long does it usually take until the symbol turns white?
With all my attempts I just managed to get the symbol white once. But I don't know what I did

First thing to do is to make sure that the camera's firmware is up to date. I'd suggest doing a manual update. Instructions on how to do that are at https://gopro.com/update/hero5.
Once that's done, please try several locations in your town. Sometimes, there can be areas where GPS is spotty. It would be good to check some other spots just to be sure that's not the issue.
If those steps don't work, our team at https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs will be glad to help.

Hey @patrickz57343 Congrats on the new Camera! A couple things to keep in mid with GPS on the camera. You will need a clear view of the sky and will want to get GPS before starting to record. It is usually pretty quick to pick up GPS however.
Where are you attempting to gain GPS and where were you able to get GPS the one time you had it?
You may also want to update that camera if you have not done so already: https://gopro.com/update/hero5.

the sky can be clear as day but you need to be clear of ANY obstructions. that can block gps.
try taking it out hte frame forst and sit outside away frm any meta, building tree anything higher then a gopro. and it should lock within seconds. if not. then take a look at what you have on and off. possiblly the camera needs to be factory reset. gps turned on. etc.

Factory default setting - still takes ages
Taken it out of the frame - doesn't improve in pickup speed
Right now I am outside in the country nothing around me, clear view to the sky. been waiting for 10 minutes now, still no gps signal.
I had the signal once today. had thr camera on my dashboard, for 20 minutes
I mean where is the sence using 20% of my battery power to get the gps signal, since the batterylife of the hero5 isn't so long at all.
FW version is 2.0 the actual version.

I have a drone it needs to aquire gps, I know I can not put it down on teh ground if I am not sure about what is under there rocks, do cause interference. metal. etc. so what I am saying is that you covered all other angles, it sounds like the camera got something that is off inside if the something moved, broke, you tried it all. I suggest not being in a open field but where more people are, and try it there. then contact, gopro, get a new camera. if you just got this, and you can return that is the first option, if it is out of a return period and you'll have to contact gopro for warranty services
good luck keep us posted
