Nope, still not working for me with Hero 5 Black 2.0 firmware and Karma Grip 1.5 firmware (I think? After installing the update, it still says 01.01.01).
The update did seem to fix the stabilization for me though; it did a really good job holding the inactive camera at a level attitude today.

I got the same problem too. Hero 5 BLK, is up to date and the karma grip also up to date. Tried every possible resets. It was however working fine before the 2.0 update. I had no issues. But now, the I turned on the grip, it doesn't wake up the gopro. Nothing! or if i reset it couple times, it will come on and works, then turned it off and back on, nothing! Its so frustrating. Its not the hardware, or damaged connectors. My GOPRO before it stopped work with the karma grip, never came out of the grip. I truly believe its the firmware/software issue. I want to go back to the old firmware!

I don't know if it's the right way to do, but here you have the GoPro Hero 5 Black firmware 1.57. Download it copy it on a SD card and put it into your GoPro Hero 5 Black, turn it on and get a cup of coffee.

I do remember a firmware update for the Griop, but it failed as with everybody who tried to update their Karma Grip. Firmware 1.5 was the version, but by now it says 1.0.1 i believe.
Hopefully the 1.5 will be release ASAP, but maybe Hero 5 firmware 1.57 will fix the problem. I haven't got the the time to downgrade mine hero 5, so can't tell if this will help.

I am facing the same problem. It is SO disappointing. The camera is inoperable using the grip. I am not sure if it is a software or a hardware issue. Moreover I have got the camera and the grip to India from USA, how do I replace it within 30 days! Can it be done in India.
It is also disappointing to notice that GoPro does not have any customer support email ID on their website.

If updating the camera's firmware and reseating the camera in the harness and the stabilizer in the Grip don't work, please contact our Support team at https://gopro.com/help/PKBContactus. We'll be glad to do individual troubleshooting with you, and resolve the issue if it is an issue with the Grip itself.
