hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]Does it make any sense to activate hypersmooth when the cam is on a gimbal?

Re: hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]Using Hypersmooth on a Gimbal might actually result in jumpy video if the movement is too slow and panning the camera out of the initial frame. Since EIS will try to maintain the frame, if you are doing a sweeping motion (up/down or left/right) the EIS might fight this until it runs out of crop space. When this happens, it will need to readjust the frame, causing a jump. In low light, hypersmooth can cause blurring, so it's best to have stabilization off or set the shutter to at least 3X the fps (60fps = 1/240 or 1/480).
If you are using a gimbal with the HERO7 in good sunlight and moving in a consistent forward motion, then having Hypersmooth on might provide increased stabilization without negatively effecting the video.

Re: hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]Hi I tried to test it and stabilization with gimbal is only slightly better than without gimbal but its hard to see sometimes. I have Smooth Q from Zhiyun and will be usefull when:
- low light
- 1080/240 fps (where you do not have stabilization) but if you slow down to 30 fps from 240 fps I think you will not need any stabilization system.
- some pannings (until repair bug with slow move with hypersmooth)
without gimbal:
- way better with fast moves
- underwater
- dynamic action shoots.
Anyway if I find some time I am gonna do some compare video on YT.
PS: HYPERSMOOTH REALLY GOOD DOING THE JOB !!!

Re: hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]I use the removu s1 gimbal. Until now I have not yet tried it with hypersmooth enabled. I have already done some footage with hypersmooth alone. It does a fantastic job. My main mistake is lifting the feet off the ground and not rolling them when walking - so you can see the up and down movement. But that's not the fault of the stabilizer but mine.

Re: hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]Hi,
I was wondering same, so I tested and made a video about where I compare different settings and use gimbal with and without hypersmooth, and also test without gimbal.

Re: hero 7 black hypersmooth + gimbal?
[ New ]Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Hand held with Hypersmooth looked best to me. Especially when running and cornering the trees. Gimbals are just too slow to react.
When walking, I also preferred the hand held with Hypersmooth, also the gimbal with/without hypersmooth locked the horizon better. Interestingly, my least favorite was HERO7 Black on the selfie stick and hypersmooth, although it didn't seem to have as much bounce as the gimbal shots.
What are your opinions?
What were the camera settings (resolution/frame rate & Protune On/Off + settings if On)?
Also, what are you using to edit your videos, you sequence settings, and export settings?
