Just took a brand new Hero 5 out of the box and it will not charge or turn on. Have tried 5 different USB ports on 2 different computers and vehicle charger. The red light comes on for approximately 1 second then turns off and the camera is completely unresponsive.

@jimg10637 - Is the battery installed and seated firmly in the camera? If you plug in the camera without a battery installed, you will see a red flash and the camera will be unresponsive.
If it is, the battery could be drained. It may need to charge for at least a little while in order to get enough power stored to operate. Try leaving it charging for a few minutes and see if it becomes responsive.

I have the same problem. Bougth it two weeks ago for my wintersports. I didnt had time to check if it work. Now i am in Austria and cant use my gopro. I tryed to charge the battery for a while, but it is still on 0%. It isnt getting responsive on itself. Only when it is on the charger.
I tryed al the solutions given on the website. I also tryed to update the go pro manually. But it is saying the battery is to low for updating the go pro hero 5 black. So i am not getting anywhere.
The only way it works is putting it in my karma grip.
Is there a solutions?

Yes, the battery was properly installed and seated. I spent about 30 minutes with GP tech support and they determined that it was either a defective camera or charging cable. Regardless, I returned to place of purchase and they exchanged without question. The new unit functions just fine and without problems, so far.

Great to hear, that you taken action right away, you do not charge it and then go use it two weks later, you want to make sure you have a check list of things. then be on the go. Its not a film camera lol
