When I switch my gopro on the display says Too Hot Shutting Down, it can't be too hot as I have just turned it on. I am using the Sandisk Extreme Pro 64gb (I have done a full format) and using the Gopro brand battery that came with the camera. I have tried at least a dozen times doing this but it just shuts down within seconds.I have removed the sd card and swithed on without it but it does the same thing over & over again
Also because of this issue with the camera I can't get to the settings screen to do a factory Reset.

Does the camera feels warm or too hot? Let your camera sit and cool before attempting to use it again.
If the camera doesn't feel warm or too hot, this is kind of strange because the camera supposedly should display a message appears on the screen indicating that the camera is shutting down only when it gets too hot.
I do have a few suggestions here that will help us narrow down the problem:
- Remove the battery from your HERO5 Black camera. Then using the GoPro USB-C cable, connect the camera to a wall charger (5V 2A output). Once the red light comes up, power the camera ON by pressing the Mode Button.
- If the camera powers ON normally, disconnect it from the charger and re-insert the battery. Check to see if it will continue to power ON without issues. If the issue persists at this point, the problem can be related to the battery. Try a secondary GoPro battery. If you do not have an extra battery, you can contact our Support team so they can help you with the next steps. Let them know about the troubleshooting steps already taken.
- Reinstalling the firmware update of the camera can help correct any errors with the current software installation. Follow the manual update instructions specified on this article: Software Update Instructions for HERO5 Black
Hopefully this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Ann thanks for your reply, I have tried all the things you have suggested but to no avail. I have contacted Gopro support online & they have talked me through every scenario possible unfortunately no success. They have come to the conclusion that maybe my Hero 5 maybe to old, I must say I was a little surprised with this as I only bought it new in April 2017.
They have offered me a good discount on the new Hero 7 but I am reluctant to pay around £300 pound for a new camera if it may only last as long as the one I have now.
