gopro starts but shows orange bar loading round screen, then shuts down.

[ New ]

I'm seeing this orange bar running round the screen every time i switch the gopro on.  Once finished it shuts down and I'm unable to interupt this or use the camera...

This is because you set your video mode to "Clips", so your GoPro is only taking short clips.  The red bar is your progress bar, once it reaches the end your camera stops recording.

Because you are using the quick capture button instead of powering on your camera normally, this means your camera defaults to the last mode used (clips) and your back screen is locked out from use.

So power on your camera properly using the side button (mode/power) and disable the clips setting.

The CLIPS menu is in each video preset.

So you need to enter the preset settings, CLIPS should be the second row in the right.

Set it to zero for longer films.

How are you powering on your camera?  Are you using the mode/power button located on the side of the camera?  Or are you pressing the shutter/quick capture button located on the top of the camera?
