have filled out the info on gopro to set new wifi and update, passed to SD card put SD card back into camera starts download
but then stops saying failed.
Have spoken to gopro on phone, they said could be something with the camera itself, but as usual out of warranty as bought
in 2014 so waiting for them to email me back, we just need to retrive password to connect with app on phone!!

That's definitely odd that the update is continually failing. What type of microSD card are you using?
Are you making sure not to try and open any of the update files on the computer prior to putting them on the card and back in the camera?
Let me know and I'll see what I can suggest to get you up and running.
Thanks so much,

Unfortunately the Toshiba 64gb microSD card you're using is not one the cards recommended for use with our cameras. I would recommend taking a look at this list of microSD card considerations and picking one up to retry the update.
Using a card that is known to work well with our cameras should definitely help with this update failed issue you're having.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

The card listing is not coming up, it says epic fail...,,
Basically all I want to do is reset the password for the GoPro app on iPhone, the wifi connects and comes up with user name but cannot remember password, is there anyway to just reset that without updating the camera as the camera is working fine??!!

Sorry about that, here's the actual link: https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations.
To answer your question, unfortunately no, you'll have to retry the manual update process.
Check this article out for some instructions on how to do that:
