I will put here the procedure, just to be sure:

if you correctly make a manual update from the microSD card, the camrea have to enter in upodate mode, as soon as you power it on.

and load what is in the UPDATE folder on the microSD.

1.  https://gopro.com/update/  than hero5 or whatever camera

2. https://gopro.com/update/hero5  --- do this from a desktop, because, if from mobile app, the below link does not appear, at least in android

2.  go to "update your camera manually"

3. you have to introduce:

   - the camera serial number - this will assure you will receive the latest and the proper firmware

        - either how they say to find it....

        - or from GoPro menu:

            - Preferences

                - about this Gopro and you have Name,  Serial Number, version number

   - email, some checks, Next

4. Download Update - an UPDATE.zip file will be downloaded

5. in UPDATE.zip are three files, that have to be extracted under an UPDATE directory on microSD card, or on PC, and copy on microSD card (I always format the microSD card on my camera before)

6. finally on microSD card, have to be

   -- an UPDATE folder

-- inside the three files extracted

7. introduce the microSD card in the camera

8. insert the battery, be sure has enough power

9. push the power button and wait

10. on the front LCD you will see some messages as in the page....

11. finally, the camera goes on, off, etc... finally remain on

when finished, camera deletes the UPDATE folder from the microSD card.

I started lately to save this updates, just to be able to install an older one, if the new firmware has problems.

hope this helps.

robert
