file format error for 2 clips from my hero 7 Silver

Hi there- I've been using my gopro hero 7 silver extensively over the last year+.  I am a whitewater kayaker and use it to document my trips.  The other weekend I had soemthing strange happen that I still cannot figure out how to remedy.  I had 2 clips that will not play on my laptop (macbook air with quicktime player).  These 2 clips from that day will only play if I watch them via the gopro app with the SD card in the gopro.  If I try to view the video directly on the gopro it won't work and when I go to play them on my macbook it says it cannot convert the MP4 and to try again.  I have like 10 other clips from that day that I shot with no issues but these 2 clips are somehow screwed up.  I've tried free online sites to convert the mp4 to .mov but both sites say they can't do it due to file corrupted or something along those lines.  One of them has the best footage from the biggest rapid of the day so I'd like to figure out how to get these clips to function and play.  I've tried in the app both the share option to youtube directly and I've tried downloading to the app but it won't allow either of those options to work either.

Any ideas?

Re: file format error for 2 clips from my hero 7 Silver

Hello @rockyboost31066. This is odd indeed. Were the two un-viewable files recorded with a different mode or resolution settings?

Which SD card are you using? Is it one of the recommended SD cards on this list?  See if the SD card has the right read/write speed. The files playing back on the GoPro App may be so because the app uses the .LRV files (low-resolution version) only. Learn more about it at https://community.gopro.com/t5/en/What-are-thm-and-lrv-files/ta-p/390253 .

To further isolate the issue, reflash camera firmware through a manual update. This would need a formatted card though so you may have to use a different SD card. Should you need further assistance, our Support team can be reached through https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs .
