No change yet, I suspect it's a camera hardware issue, hence the reason it hasn't changed and likely won't change.

There's no IOS favoritism, it's just quicker to develope tools and apps for IOS due to the limited hardware combinations.  Apple only has specific phones with specific hardware and that's it.  Hell, they don't even allow you change the battery they have that much control over it.

Android is like the wild wild west.  Anyone can put together an android device with any possible hardware combination.  You've got 20 major phone players out ther and about 100 minor brands.  You also have a completely different set then in the tablet market.  Each one of those players not only has multiple model phones out there, but also use different hardware in those models depending on region, country and cell phone carrier.  Then there's the different android versions running on all of those devices...........

Due to the complexity of this, making a "universal" app that works across all of these devices takes a huge amount of time and resources.  So this is why there's always going to be a delay and more issues with Android (and windows) software.

Confirmo, em 28 Março 2020, que a opção para mudar o nome continua a não funcionar (depois da câmara já estar configurada, nos settings, há um item chamado "nome", mas não faz nada).

No entanto confirmo o comentário do aenriquez que basta remover e re-adicionar a câmara e o processo irá perguntar o novo nome da câmara ("8 a 30 caracteres sem caracteres especiais"), o que demora 5 segundos e resolve a situação. Obrigado a todos os comentários.

For a regular GoPro 5, 6, 7, 8 yes but NOT for the Fusion.

Sim funciona na Fusion.

Alterei o nome da minha GoPro 6 Black e da minha Fusion durante o fim de semana usando o truque de remover e re-adicionar, pois fui obrigado a remover e readicionar as duas câmaras pois quando se faz um reset+restore backup de um iphone, por vezes há settings das ligações bluetooth ou wifi (coisas que tenham a ver com segurança) que não são repostas correctamente.

Tenho GoPro 6 com o ultimo firmware (só actualizei agora) e a Fusion tanto com a 1.80 oficial como a 2.0 beta. iPhone X 13.4 latest (não há ainda betas novas) e app GoPro latest. Ambas as câmaras funcionaram exactamente igual - liga a câmara, mete em modo "add app", app na GoPro detecta a camara, e pergunta o novo nome (dando o nome anterior como default, que no meu caso já era um nome diferente, sinal que dá para alterar o nome há bastantes meses, mas eu queria alterar outra vez).

Just to enlighten a bit:

I just did (8 may 2020) what @aenriquez said and it worked like a charm in my Gopro FUSION. But under IOS ONLY! Mine is latest version 13.4.1 iPhone 7 Plus. Under Android it's really not possible to do that. It does not offer this option, not even removing the camera. I've performed the removing/changing name twice to be certain. In conclusion, as of today, it's OS dependent.
