Hi - can you advise the best combination of go pro and external microphone. The camera will be used for recording group discussions, so the quality of the voice recording is very important, more important than the video quality. The group discussion will be held in a quiet meeting room with reasonable acoustics (but not recording studio). There is usually approx 8 people in a group.

If you are sitting in a round table discussion, the best camera to use is the GoPro Fusion. My son just did a school project like this and it turned out great. They just set the camera in the middle of the table. Since the Fusion captures in 360, both video and sound, they didn't have to worry about directing the camera at anyone (especially important when someone interrupted and started speaking on the other side of the table). They used a seperate audio recorder but decided they didn't need it because the audio was so good with the Fusion. They rendered the video as a traditional 2D video and it looked and sounded great.

Since the OP is using the camera in a group setting, a directional mic might not be the best thing to use. I'd avoid the Rode Video Micro unless you only want the audio coming from where the mic is pointing. If the camera is going to be mounted, you will want something that pics up a wider range.
