Wrong Cable

[ New ]

GoPro Pro packaged the wrong cable with Hero 8. The camera won't function with Windows using the [white-tipped] USB2 to USB3 cable. And even with the correct [blue-tipped] cable it is extremelly limited with Windows / Chromecast [NO Zoom, Skype, MeetNow, etc]. GoPro will give the customer the run-around after hours and hours on chat support and will penalize the customer if resolution takes longer than 90 days by saying it's too late to return the product for a full refund. DO NOT BUY IT if intending to use it for calls on Windows / Chromebook.

Actually it depends on the USB ports the cable is being used with.  A USB 2.0 cable will work with a USB 2.0 port.  A USB 3.0 cable will work with a USB 3.0 port.  I use both the "White tip" and "blue tip" cable with my GoPro and don't have issues providing I plug them into a matching port.

My Hero 7 USB2 to USB3 cable transfers files to my Windows 10 whereas my Hero 8 cable does not when plugged into the same USB port; the former is blue-tipped whereas the latter is white-tipped.

Is your Hero 8 set to MTP mode in the USB connection settings of the camera?

"hours and hours on chat support."  You are referring to basic information posted on GoPro Support pages. I followed those instructions + consulted the GoPro Forum + watched instructional YouTube videos. Based on the collective information from the aforementioned I posted my opinion. Would you have any source of information on this matter other than GoPro, YouTube, GitHub or Stack Overflow? Would you have any software solution on platforms other then Unbutu, Debian, Windows or Chrome OS?

You mean other than the fact I'm sitting here at my PC with two GoPro cables, one "white tipped" and one "blue tipped" and I can get them both to communicate with my GoPro via MTP mode providing they are plugged into the correct USB ports?  That type of source of information, you know, first hand experience?

Since you're familier with GoPro, YouTube, GitHub, Stack Overflow, "Unbutu" (I think you mean "Ubuntu" by the way), Debian, Windows and Chrome OS, here's another one you may be familier with...

PICNIC

That's an IT term, look it up.

No, irishmanpdx, what I meant is that you have no life other than sitting by your PC counting the hours before your expiration date and dispensing elementary information to individuals above your level of expertise. I hear Uncle Sam foots the bill for in-home care specialists - a\k\a babysitter which your social worker may advise you on. Because that is what we are talking about here, not machinery malfunction, but the degeneration ocurring in your brain as a result of a lifetime of geocentrism.

Oh no, some random weirdo off the internet insulted me, whatever will I do?  I'm so upset, my life is over......

Look, you posted a topic in a "support" forum.  If you didn't want help, just say "Thanks but no thanks" when someone actually tries to help you.  What you shouldn't do is probably brag that your levels of expertise are far above anyone elses when you are having an issue where you can't get your camera to work properly.

I hope you get your issue solved and everything works out.  I also hope you get your camera working properly too.

Good luck!
