Won't shut down after firmware update v1.7

[ New ]

Hi all I need help. My GP7B after updating to v1.7 won't shut down properly press button red light on then screen still on doesn't shut down like it should. Then I press again screen goes off but it seems to be still awake & heats up. I had to remove battery to store it as it will just drain off the battery very fast if I didn't remove. Everything was fine before update luving the cam but this v1.7 bugs me!

Hi @droidcam,

Sorry to know what happened.

I just want to know if you already tried resetting the camera to factory settings?

Regards,

received feedback fro Gopro Twitter acc & will try manual reflash & update back here once issue solved:

Hello Richart. Try re-flashing the firmware following the steps under Manual Update here http://bit.ly/2SJIbtn . Also, make sure to delete the camera (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) from any device it has paired with previously.

Manual Update
Note: Useful for updating or reinstalling camera software.

Go to the Update page and choose your HERO7 camera.
Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
Click "Download Update."
Click "Click here to download firmware."
Follow the steps on the screen for detailed instructions for your operating system

manual update didn't fix this issue; this is a problem introduced with last 1.70 FW

Hello @andregixxer. Thank you for doing the manual update. Could the camera be possibly communicating with mobile devices nearby which may have been paired to the camera previously? Have you been able to explore whether having the wake on voice, WI-Fi features off makes a difference?

hi, i not having shutdown but facing lots of freezing and gimbal connecting issue after updated to fw v1.7. Previous fw v1.61 work great without any issue (battery and panning issue were solved plus gimbal g6 plus work fine). After those problem, i decided to downgrade back to fw 1.61 but the issue still appeared after manual downgrade and formatting sd card and factory reset.

Really dont know what goiong wrong. Supposed manually downgrade plus formatting and factory reset can back to normal but with no luck. really frastuating.regrets updating the FW 1.7.  Help please me.

FW 1.7 = a) Gimbal start video recording work fine.

                b) Screen freeze when stop recording on gimbal is pressed.

Setting = a) 2.7k 60 fps Linear

               b) Auto low ligth and stabilization On and off both same Freezing

Manual pressing start and stop video recording button on gh7 black work fine but not on gimbal button.  Fw 1.61 work fine on gimbal.

Here's the update after downloading v1.7 update to reflash... good news I can shut down the camera. Bad news I cannot connect to Quik app either on phone or notebook! Tried wifi or usb cable reset reinstall both just won't detect the camera. I am now unable to connect via wifi or usb anymore... this has got to be the worst update ever! previous updates no such issues.🤬

Hello @droidcam. By any chance, are you getting any error message when you connect your camera to the computer/notebook? If you have installed Quik for desktop, does it ever launch? There are troubleshooting steps here that you can try.

How does it go with the app? See if resetting the connections according to the steps here https://gopro.com/help/articles/solutions_troubleshooting/GoPro-App-Camera-Connection-Troubleshootin... clears the issue. Let us know how it works out. Best regards!

Nope no error msg nothing... if I take our SD & plug in via adapter Quik will launch other than that no response if direct connect or via direct wifi mobile or notebook. This is very odd as previosuly before v1.7 update can connect. The previous firmware was fine with me & didn't cause issue. Can Gopro please release an update over v1.7 as it's really buggy it over heats now when I'm shotting 4K. Previous firmware was ok.

It is odd, indeed. We tested with HERO7 Black units here but we are not able to replicate the issue. We even re-flashed firmware just to see if there have been changes with the update files but our cameras here are still able to be recognized as USB devices when connected to a computer, and are able to pair with mobile devices via GoPro App. There is one more information that we would like to get from you, if you wouldn't mind. This is just to add details to what we already know. Try checking the contents of the TXT file inside the MISC folder on your SD card. You can access this when you have your SD card directly connected to your computer. Please verify if the TXT file gives you information about the camera such as serial number or version details. Thanks!

We do not have information about a new firmware but we have passed this issue along to the team. We will surely keep this thread updated once we have new information. Thanks!

Any update of this? I still can't connect USB to notebook even though my other gadgets all can connect to the same usb port & cable.

Still same sometimes cam won't shut down after pressing power button & red led came on. After it goes off screen still on. I disabled all wifi voice gps etc to try still same issue. Sometimes it powers down but when I on back after 1 day the battery is drained. Really regreat updating to v1.7 everything was fine before the update. Smiley Sad

is gopro even working on this issue?  i did the manual update on mine, and still have the issue.  only way it doesnt happen is if i disconnect the wifi, and connection with the phone.  which should be turned off when i turn off the camera.

Went on a travel trip... still same problems even after numerous reflash as advised by support.

  1. Cannot connect usb to notebook any other notebook
  2. Overheats while recording even in 1080p
  3. Can't shut down properly batt will just drain to zero.
  4. Faced 2 times recording freeze which never happened before v1.7 update

Everything was fine before update & I could record long time even in 4K 60fps no issues.

Finally re-flashed back to v1.61 from the hopeless v1.7.

Happy to report my WiFi + USB is working + I can turn off normal again.

Now left only monitor if battery drain is back to pre v1.7 then I'll be super happy!

Skip v1.7 everyone for a peaceful mind.

As I read the thread. GoPro should have  contacted you  asked for the camera, and given you a fully trsted on that they said htey tried on.  then drag you two weeks on  trying to resolve the issue with you.  I was going to say if your serial is on the camera then you would need to   de-install in Device manager the usb port you plugged into and  restart the usb por twould have reloaded and if the camera  recognized. not one mention of that from gopro.  Reverting is not what Gopro likes people to do but it resolved your issue so do you think FW 1.7 plus  or higher will be correctly loaded or more issues on your sam camera.

Re: Won't shut down after firmware update v1.7

Good news... ever since re-flashed back to v1.61 firmware everything back to normal even my battery didn't drain to zero after 4 days off. Those facing issues with v1.7 please try revert back to v1.61 if you never faced any issue before update. So happy back to my shootings with GP7B.

v1.61 Firmware:

  1. Battery doesn't drain to zero in a day
  2. No freezing after recording long time
  3. Not overheating
  4. Shuts down properly after red notification light
