Won’t let me update and can’t view recent videos

I was just on a fishing trip in Canada and I can’t view the videos I’ve taken from my hero 4 on any device I’ve tried the go pro itself, my phone, my computer and none of it also isn’t letting me update the go pro from the app and it just continues to say update failed.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. "Update Failed" can indicate that the camera isn't able to successfully load the firmware update from the SD card. There are several factors that can cause such issue in the update process. Here's a couple of suggestions:

  • Make sure that you are using a recommended SD card to install the update. Some SD cards are not compatible to work with GoPro cameras and aren't able to keep up during the update installation, thus causing the process to fail.
  • Follow the manual update instructions specified on this article: Software Update Instructions for HERO4
  • Try formatting the SD card on your computer before placing the update folder/files onto the root of the card. Note: Formatting the SD card will delete all data in the card. Backup your files into your computer
