I am having the same issue. Quik is not prompting and the GoPro does not show up on my devices on the computer. Any suggestions?

See the suggestion right before my post. There's a setting within the Go Pro that makes it look for a wireless dump first and does not recognise the USB-C connection. Made that switch and it worked immediately.

Were you able to try the steps on Camera is not Recognized when Plugged into a Computer USB Port

If it's still the same, try using an SD card adapter instead.

I had the same problem of my brand new GoPro hero 8 black. I fixed the problem.

Go to Preferences on your camera, than open connections, and on USB connections, select  MTP. Connect camera to PC with USB cable. GoPro Quik  program detect camera and allowe acsses to media.

But GoPro 8 are still  invisible in PC file explore
