Windows 10 not recognizing Hero 8

I have a fully up to date Windows 10 laptop not recognizing my Hero 8 camera (fully updated).

 

I also have Gopro Quik installed.   I have reviewed multiple YouTube how to's and nothing is working.   This is the first camera that I have not had default drivers recognize the device.

Sorry that article was Google's first recommendation and did not work

+1.
Windows 10, hero 8 and Quik all up to date.
Using SD card supplied in GoPro bundle and another card as well.

USB logo appears on camera when connected. 

Tried alternate USB ports. 
SD card is read ok by pc reader and Quik sees card and imports ok. 

Reformatted sd cards in camera. 

Uninstalled usb drivers and restarted pc. 
Removed sd card and battery and replaced them.

Still no joy.

What am I missing?

And yes, I have tried switching it all off and on again hahaha

Having the same problem. Not sure what to do. The name comes up, but it won't read the SD CARD or show under THIS PC.

Have you tried changing ports or trying other USB C cable?

Just talked to GoPro support. I was told that with the latest update this functionality for downloading via the usb cable is no longer available. Seems like a major bug to me in the camera software. WTF comes to mind as an appropriate response.

Hello @foggygorge31704. We just tested with Quik for desktop and a HERO8 Black camera and the camera was detected with Quik prompting to import files. Apologies if there may have been confusion with the information you got from Support. If you have a case number, we'd be glad to look into the case to provide necessary feedback. Please note that not all computers have the same (types of) USB ports so it is important to isolate whether the observed issue is due to the port, or the cable used, or the camera itself.
