Re: Why does my go pro 7 1440 video have black bars on the side?

[ New ]
1440p in 16:9 is 1080p.

1080p in 4:3 is 1440p

People use 1440p, especially for action FPV, because it is taller, but just as wide, as 1080p.

This allows you to see more top to bottom of the shot. 1440p is default because it is the superior format as it allows reframing if you want to use a 16:9 format.

If you changed 1440p to 16:9 via the touchscreen, you changed the resolution to 1080p. You wouldn't need to select 1080p because just the act of changing 1440p to 16:9 does this automatically.

You might be using 4:3 instead of 16;9 @rockygorge80307,

Okay, my mistake was seeing the 2.7k and thinking this was 1440 or equivalent to. I changed the 4.3 in 2.7 k to 16.9. I see 1440 widescreen videos all the time on YouTube so how are they doing this?  Obviously something is getting adjusted in post processing. Someone told me that to remove black bars in 1440 I need to put the 1440 into a 4K container. I don’t know what that means.
