Why does my go pro 7 1440 video have black bars on the side?

[ New ]

Set to 1440p. 60fps. I upload the video direct to youtube. It has option to show 1440 quality but there are still black bars on the sides. Same if I view the video on VLC player. When I do a timelapse video, it is full screen, but the timelapse video resolution is 3840x2160.

I cannot find an answer to this problem.

Also, there are tons of 1440 demo videos on youtube that don't have black bars. How do I get rid of them?

Hi

1440p has 4:3 aspect ratio so it is not 16:9.

Look here:

https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/video-resolutions-for-hero7-cameras

1440p 60/50, 30/25, 24/24 Linear, Wide 1920x1440 4:3

On 16:9 screen 4:3 has bars on both sides:

It's actually not that there are Black bars being added (so there is nothing to remove), it's that the video is being shrunk down to fit the taller resolution of 4:3.

You can use an editor to scale the video image up to for a 16:9 screen (you will want to reframe as needed), or you can dynamically stretch the video to squash it down and stretch the sides.

Thanks, but the answer I was lokimg for was

“You can change the 4.3 setting on 1440p by touching the 4.3 icon on the touchscreen when looking at your video settings. The default is 4.3, but 16.9 is available.”

Why they show 4.3 as a default, I have no idea.  Why would anyone use this?

it it took me days to figure this out.

There is no 1440p in 16:9 - I gave you a link to tables in my ansewer. Reading and searching is easier than complaining that we didn't give you straight answer.

Really? Then I must be blind and stupid. I distinctly remember changing 1440 to 16.9 via the touchscreen and uploading 1440 video without black bars. I post this info because maybe it helps someone else avoid a two day search for answers.
