If you haven't already, run a manual update.
Be sure you are using a recommended SD card.

Or, you can look to sell your HERO6 and upgrade to the HERO7 Black if you want the latest features and Hypersmooth Stabilization.

I agree with @danielr15 If you say it's not usable. well then Please purchase a better camera, or at least take more time to post some samples ofwhy, so we can say or offer some suggestions the advice given is probably waht you knew or did not know. since yesterday for USA and overseas firmware may have Improved your issue? try that out and report back it's usable or not

The EIS on the Hero 6 works, not as well as the Hero 7 but it still works. If you're having specific problems with the EIS then you'll need to post example videos so that other users can make suggestions to resolve your problems.
As it's an end of life product having been replaced by the Hero 7 Black I can't imaging many if any new firmware releases, GoPro will be focusing their development expenditure on the firmware for the current range of cameras rather than develop the firmware for products no longer manufactured.
