What is the point of registering a camera and no record is kept of ownership to prevent stealing

Hi,

I see no point in registering a camera if you keep no records, it can not be hard to do. Plenty of other companies do it.

When you enter stolen camera on the support page it tells you how to reset the camera for use again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about "inviting thieves" to steal valuable items.

I have just had to buy another camera at considerable expense to continue working and despite offering a reward to get it returned I have little to no chance of getting the camera back and more importantly the valuable footage on the card.

GoPro should consider asigning cameras to people, if they change hands then a process of change of ownership should take place, or is it a case of you dont care and another camera is sold so you make a bit more money. With the size of the company it should be the first option but I suggest that it is probably the second option and customer care is out of the window!

Re: What is the point of registering a camera and no record is kept of ownership to prevent stealing

Hi @markh3161

First off, I just want to say that I sincerely regret to hear that you had a camera stolen. That's never something that we like to hear and I understand that that situation must cause a lot of frustration and disappointment.

Unfortunately at this point in time, there is no official registry where you can assign a camera to yourself, although we do have records of cameras and their owners when someone opens up a support case with us. If you would like to associate a camera with yourself you can feel free to reach out to the Support team, providing them with a copy of your receipt and a picture of the serial number so that we can have that on record.

However, I must also mention that this works best in resolving situations where a camera was lost, not stolen. If a camera is stolen, there is really know way for us to locate the camera without the perpetrator contacting us. The idea I mentioned works best in a case when another person calls in, reporting a found camera, and we are able to use the serial number to contact the original owner.

Again, I am sorry to hear about the unfortunate experience that you had, and I hope that you will not run into anything similar in the future.
