For those owners of the Hero6 Black still getting familiar with the new features of the camera, you may not have noticed a great new improvement to the Burst mode. I own, and continue to use, just about every GoPro camera made since the original Hero HD. While the features and performance of these cameras have continued to improve over the years, one shooting mode I didn't use often was the burst mode. I liked the idea of burst photos but it seemed I was always misjudging the correct frames/second ratio and usually didn't get the best results. Finally GoPro has taken the guess work out and included an Auto function to the burst mode.
The Auto Burst mode will automatically calculate the needed shutter speed and then perform the max photo burst available based on that shutter. The max burst is 30/1 or thirty photos in one second but if the scene is not providing enough light to perform a 30/1 without underexposing the shots, the camera will adjust the shutter and similarly adjust the burst rate.
Have Camera Will Travel did a very nice write up explaining this new feature and you can read about it here

Also, the Hero5 has a completely different processor. The GP1 was made specifically for the Hero6 and allows greater customization.
@ryanf00062 , your post are generally pretty negative so I'm not surprised by your comment, however my post was clearly not directed to Hero5 owners but to those who own or are considering the Hero6.
I have both cameras. I like and use both frequently. The Hero6 is far superior to the Hero5, but the H5 is still a very good camera. It's certainly possible that GoPro will continue to release updates to the H5 as they are still selling it. It's generally not until they discontinue manufacturing and selling the model that they stop updates as necessary.
That being said, you will never get the same functions on the H5 as you can get with the H6 based on the processor alone.

totally agree @danielr15.
@danielr15 Do you Layer your burst photos to create an awesome one photo of action, while it should have been something GoPro software related in the camera made it automatic for us where ittakes time to work on one phot at a time
Also video layering another excellent trick....
Yes should be firmwared to the Hero 5 why, because its nearly the same exact camera, less a GP! chip, that the Ambrella is capable of doing as well.

The processor is the brain of the camera so it's a pretty big difference between the Hero5 and Hero6 and what each is capable of. The Hero6 GP1 is much faster at adjusting for alternating light and dynamic range than cameras with the Ambarella chip so I'm not sure it has the processing power to make the calculation quick enough to be utilized on the Hero5.
It's probably just my background in computer programming, but I find it kinda frustrating when I hear people comment how a certain function or feature can or should be added to a device they no development knowledge of. There are product managers, project managers and teams of engineers and analyst that work on these devices. The people who work on these devices have far more knowledge of what can and cannot be done than the vast majority of people commenting on this site.
That being said, it never hurts to ask for features and to give feedback to GoPro for what you hope to see in future updates. GoPro welcomes feedback and it can be submitted here https://gopro.com/feedback
