Try re-flashing the software.
This corrects any issues encountered with the previous installation.
Once completed, do a factory reset on the camera.

If you have already selected the most appropriate language (say, among the different English versions), and has been speaking clearly directly to the camera to no avail, the next step would be to contact Support through https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs for further assistance.
