Videos werden nicht komplett abgespeichert

[ New ]

Situation:

Fehlermeldung:

Es werden keine Fehlermeldung etc. angezeigt... -_-

Situation:

I mounted my GoPro on my motorcycle helmet. Thus, you will be actively cooled by the wind.

The GroPro is also operated with the MediaMod and simultaneously charged via a PowerBank.

A SanDisk Extreme® PRO microSDXC ™ UHS-I memory card is used as the storage medium.
This means that I can record the entire journeys without interruption, etc. That's the theory.

Problem:

After the end of the last tour, for example, the camera shows that you recorded 3 1/3 hours, the memory card and battery still have capacity, and stop recording.

On the memory card, however, only approx. 1 1/2 hours recorded were displayed.

On the penultimate trip too, unfortunately. The camera indicated that it recorded two hours, but only 1 hour was saved as video material. It was just a cut while driving for no apparent reason.

Error message:

No error messages etc. are displayed ... -_-

Thanks for your feedback irishmanpdx.

You are very welcome.

The internal battery was inserted in the GoPro during the recordings.

This generally causes overheating due to the fact you have a power supply pulling power from the battery (resulting in heat generation), you also have incoming power trying to charge the battery (also resulting in heat generation) and the camera being used at the same time (causing lots of heat generation).  Combined, this all causes the camera to overheat.  So if powering externally, remove the internal battery first.

If the GoPro also runs cleanly via the external PowerBank without an internal battery in the GoPro, then I will try it out on my next tour to see whether it works better.

It does, I use external Powerbanks myself quite a lot and usually run them for 2 or 3 days without fail.

Can I generally do something about GoPro against overheating, that problem seems to occur frequently?

It would depend on what's causing the overheat or if indeed that's the issue.  If you have a thermal shutdown due to overheat, this can sometimes cause SD card corruption.  When this happens you will also have failed GoPro recordings (freezes, shutdowns etc) which causes more corruption.  Therefore the fix for this is to fully format the SD card in a PC (takes about 15 - 30 mins depending on the SD card size) and then format again in the camera to set the card up properly for optimal use.

SD card corruption or incorrect SD cards (too slow) can also cause overheating of the camera.

Using external power while having the internal battery inside the camera can also cause overheating.

Recording in High Frame Rates and Resolution for extended periods of time will also cause overheating of the camera.

It would be helpful to determine the cause of the overheating before planning a path forward to combat it.

Since you are powering the camera externally, did you remove the internal battery first to prevent overheating and shutdown?

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

I will try your advice on my next tour, when the weather in Munich is better again, and give you feedback.

I would definitely be happy if things went more smoothly so that I can edit the videos properly. :)

Smiley Happy

The test was successful.

Operating the GoPro without a battery and purely via the power bank is a lot better and more stable in this situation.

Thank you very much for your hint. Smiley Happy
