Videos can not be viewed in Quik on pc: Hero 7 Black

[ New ]

I just purchased a Hero 7 black and shot some footage in the 4k settings. I am unable to view the videos in the Quik app on my pc, windows 10, but the videos do play properly if I open them in the File Explorer and use the default windows player. They will also play if I put them on a flash drive and plug into a smart tv. I read a few articles and tried updating my pc and the drivers on it. Everything was up to date. My quik software is set to automatically update so I think it is up to date.  From what I am seeing it looks like my PC meets the requirments, I have an Intel i7-6700 processor.

The only thing I'm not sure about is that I am not using a graphics card, just the intergrated graphics in the processor. I'm not sure if this may be the issue as the pc will play the video but not when viewing in the Quik app. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using Windows 10?

Personally,I never use the Quik Desktop app. When I want Quik style videos I utilize the Mobile app, which is very good. The desktop app on the other hand, is good for importing and organizing media, but it not that great as a media player/editor. Quik for desktop was made in house several years ago for the HERO5 launch.

While GoPro is a worldwide brand, they are not a very large company. I believe that they are working on Desktop solutions, but most of their resources have been toward developing Mobile solutions. If you need a good, free, video editor, then you can try one of these:
VSDC on Windows- http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor/download.
DaVinci Resolve https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve
VideoProc https://www.videoproc.com/
HitFilmExpress https://hitfilm.com/express
ShotCut https://shotcut.org/download/
Lightworks http://www.lwks.com/
Avidemux http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/
Blender https://www.blender.org/download/
EZvid http://www.ezvid.com/download
VirtualDub http://www.virtualdub.org/
Fusion https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/motiongraphics
Lives http://lives-video.com/index.php?do=home

As far as viewing media (especially HEVC 4K), then I would just stick with your default media player.

I am using windows 10. I just wanted to use the quik app so I could play with the telemetry features that i believe you can only access in the quik app. I've been meaning to add a graphics card to my pc for awhile so maybe I will try that and see if it helps. I can always just record in 1080 instead of 4k to.

Hopefully that works. 2.7K is my favorite resolution to record with. Higher resolution than 1080p and smaller, easier to manage, file size than 4K.

As far as GPS data, you can add it to videos with the GoPro mobile app as well as with programs like Dashware and RaceRender.

There is also this online program created by a GoPro user. https://tailorandwayne.com/gopro-telemetry-extractor/

Quick update, I added the graphics card to my pc and updated the gopro software. The videos will now play in Quik but are lagging/studdering. The audio sounds ok but the video is lagging. I'm going to keep playing with it to see if I can get it working better, maybe theres some settings I need to adjust.
