Video Quality and MacBook

I uploaded my GoPro vids to my MacBook a few days ago. I realized that since it’s an older MacBook that the 4K videos don’t playback well (I’m assuming because the laptop just doesn’t have the capability to play the higher res).

What I’m wondering is if I were to send those videos to another device that has 4K-capabilities if the videos will playback without issue. Or will they have problems since they were uploaded to the computer (which is being used as a backup to make room on the GoPro itself).

Thanks!

Re: Video Quality and MacBook

Glad to hear back from you, @fastwave04781. If you have Quik for desktop installed in the computer that you intend to use, you can add your GoPro media even if they are saved on your external hard drive. This article details the steps on how to add media folders in Quik for desktop.

Thanks,
Marius

Hi @fastwave04781

It will be best to save/upload the raw file via Dropbox or any cloud service you have.

It should play fine on a 4K capable device.

For reference you may check: Minimum System Requirements for 4K Editing and Playback

Thanks,

Ej

The only difficult that arises is that it’s about 140 videos and uploading that many can be quite time-consuming.

Re: Video Quality and MacBook

Forgot to add:

Because it takes up just about all of my iCloud storage, I like to save a a majority of the files on my laptop (with external hard drive backup). Keeps me from having to increase the iCloud storage space.

I guess I can upload slowly to Dropbox.

The only thing I wasn’t sure about was if the files that are currently saved on my (older) MacBook are sent to a 4K-capable device, if there would be able playback issues since the file was saved to that laptop.

Thanks again.

Re: Video Quality and MacBook

Hello @fastwave04781

The files should be able to play smoothly in a  4K-capable device even if they have been saved in an older computer, this is as long as you kept the files in their original format and has not done any edit on them.

Thanks,
Marius

Re: Video Quality and MacBook

Nope. I only uploaded them to iPhoto and then backed up to Seagate Backup Plus external hard drive.
