Very disappointed in Gopro

Hello, I'm on the 4th Gopro because the first 3, hero 7white that i had would either only not record or randomly stop recording therefore missing key moments. It wouldnt connect to my phone and/or I would get an error message on the screen saying "repairing file". This 4th one that I have now, the Hero 7silver works a little better but it gets very hot very fast in about 15 minutes. It's so hot it turns itself off. I'm tired of going back and forth to the store and exchanging it. I thought you had the best action camera around but judging from all 4, your cameras are horrible. The camera on my phone works better and is more reliable. I'm going to exchange it 1 more time. If the one I get still doesn't work the way it should, I will give up on GoPro and get a different camera. I'm going on a big adventure soon and I would like to have a good reliable camera and if I can't rely on GoPro, I will find another camera.

Re: Very disappointed in Gopro

Most issues emanate from the SD card.

Make sure you are using a card from this list
https://community.gopro.com/t5/en/SD-Cards-that-Work-with-GoPro-Cameras/ta-p/394308#HERO7

Perform a full (overwrite) format of your card using this tool
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

Perform a manual update
https://gopro.com/en/us/update/hero7-silver

After the update, format the card again in the camera.

Hopefully you haven't been using the same SD card with each camera.

What's wrong with using the same SD card? And what does that have to do with the problems the cameras are having? I have 2 diffrent SD cards i bought when i bought the camera.

Re: Very disappointed in Gopro

@alertcave0571  you are still under a return Policy, correct?  And the Store is not giving you any issues on each exchange , correct?  They want to make you happy, Correct?

Lets tell @danielr15  the sdxc card being used,  that you just ripped the pkg opn and inserted, two  mistakes right there, and why you get issues.

If th ecard is on the sites (look that up) recommended list , you'll see if the card matches what you are supposed to have.  then a Store selling you the wrong one?  Take the sdxc card and  before any use  format it. I prefere myself a full format, do not care what others do. if you have no clue of what a full format , ask, nothing to be embarrassed about.

Now all will work.  cameras all heat up, heck how  hot does your phone get when you start surfing the net?  all generate heat.

the camera is to get warm to about 125-151  degrees fereinheite.    how on earth I knew that, MAGIC-8 BALL, how did I know that. testing.

Please  return the camera go buy another  company and be happy I do not want your trip to get ruined,  or followwhat we told you.

I am using the SanDisk Extreme PLUS MicroSDXC (UHS 3 / V30) A2 128GB. How do I format it from the camera? I don't have a computer to format the card

Preferences>Reset>Format SD

Thing is, you really need to do a FULL format with the tool I linked to. It's also best to do a manual update, which also needs a computer.

Formatting in the camera only clears the card and sets the correct tables for recording, but it doesn't check the card for errors. Only through a FULL format will the card get a proper cleaning and be prepared for recording. This issues you mentioned sound SD card related, so I strongly suggest seeking out someone who will let you borrow their computer to do these two task.

BTW, you should always format your SD card in the camera before that days shoot.

Re: Very disappointed in Gopro

That sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through for today's technology, but yes I am still under the stores return policy and they dont give me issues but I'm pretty they're tired of seeing me in there every week as I am tired of going back there every week. As for the heat, I understand devices heat up but not in 10-15 minutes. My phone doesn't even get that hot and it stays on all day. I could leave it in the charger all day and it still doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the camera does in 10-15 minutes of the camera just being on. I'm not completly technically ignorant.
