Various Session5 Problems

Greetings,

 

Bought myself a Session 5 a few months ago, finally getting round to playing with it and testing it out.

 

A couple of things troubling me.

 

the battery life seems very short compared to what is stated, I'm getting 30-40 minutes life before power off, have a go pro recommended sandisk sd card inserted and it is fully charged.

 

The heat. the camera gets up to a very high temperature while being used even for a quick 5 minute video.

 

Finally, I can see that there is an update for my session 5, download the zip file, but not a clue on how to actually update it,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Thirty to forty minutes of run time is quite short as compared to the standard as listed here

 

It is best to perform a test against short record times, but we would like to make sure that the camera is updated first. 

 

Good thing that you have already downloaded the zip file. Depending on which operating system your computer has, you will need to extract the UPDATE folder first from the zip UPDATE folder then save the extracted UPDATE folder on your formatted SD card. Make sure that the camera is fully charged and turned off before you insert the SD card into it. Once inserted, power the camera on and just let the update complete. The camera will indicate when the update is completed. 

 

Once the update is completed, perform the short record time test following the instructions here: https://gopro.com/help/articles/solutions_troubleshooting/Short-Record-Times

thanks for your reply, update is finally sorted, despite problems with SanDisk cards. Charging the GP up at the moment. I will do a video test once it is full

Have started recording at 1080-24fps, no option for 30 fps.

I havn't done a full battery test, but after 45 minutes of filming, the battery was still high enough to notice the update had helped.

 

the only problem I'm having now is a nasty line across the middle of the video at random intervels, normally at a time of high movement. like a screen tear.

 

any ideas on this?

Great to know that the manual update helped with improving the battery run time. Will you be able to send sample video/photo that illustrates said screen tear? Also, have you noticed if it happens with a specific mode of shooting or resolution?

everything so far. I've deleted the videos but will send one next time i record.
