Unpleasant experience with my GoPro Hero 7 Black randomly freezing! PLEASE help
[ New ]I just got back from my trip to South Korea and I just want to throw this thing out to the freezing Han river!!!! it is just so frustration that it keeps on freezing and stalling !
Here's what I used all through out my trip
- 2.7K Wide or Linear Hypersmooth Enabled
- 60 fps
- 0.5 - +1 exposure depending on the lights
- GPS and Wireless all off
- Using a Samsung Evo PLUS 32GB (U1 1080P) 128GB (U3 4K) Micro SD Card https://www.lazada.sg/-i227044759-s346966262.html?urlFlag=true&mp=1
So what happens is that while roaming in Seoul, I usually just leave the camera on while holding it with an alligator clamp then, I just simply press the Record button when I need to take some few shots ... simple, no frills noobie vlogging. Then I notice that the screen randomly freeze up and at times, I need to remove and put back the battery which really is FRUSTRATING!
At times, I can get lucky that if I press the right button and set it to PHOTO mode, the screen will go active again so I just switch back again to VIDEO mode and it sometimes work. THIS DOES NOT happen whenever Im in Photo mode it seems.
I also did not notice this problem prior to updating to 1.61 firmware though I only use 1080 resolution.
This is just soooo frustration for a $500 ++ action camera!!
Please help !
Thanks!

Apologies for any troubles caused.
If a camera is freezing up, it is usually an indicator the camera's software needs to be updated or there is potentially an issue with the microSD being used. Try removing the SD card and see if the camera still freezes up. If it no longer freezes, then the issue is likely stemming from the SD card
You may also try re-flashing the software.
This can correct any issues encountered with the previous installation.

Let us know how it goes.

[ New ]Hello @aragon1006
I just did that and same issue occurs even after retrying the update. I also tested without the SDcard and the screen just freezes up on me whenever I'm on VIDEO mode.
Seems that this occurs whenever I reverse the camera like upside down..

[ New ]Hi Marvin. Same issue was reported on a different topic. There is a hotfix for this issue... until it gets fixed.
Please take a look: https://community.gopro.com/t5/Cameras/The-firmware-version-01-61-is-making-screen-freeze-on-standby...

Thanks a lot! It seems to be OK so far!
Will my videos be of lesser quality then after disabling the LOW LIGHT ? I always use HyperSmooth. I guess I'm not sure what I'm missing with this feature being turned off.
