Unable to Enable Preview in GoPro app paired to HERO8 Black

Hi, I successfully paired my (new) camera with my phone using the GoPro app. I am able to control my camera with the app (e.g. take picture or change settings) but when I hit the [ Enable Preview ] button, I just get the spinner for few minutes and then an error message pops up saying:

 

We had trouble connecting with your GoPro.

  • Try toggling your Device's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off and on.
  • Restart your device and GoPro.
  • Make sure your GoPro has Wi-Fi enabled

I tried all the recommended remedies (switching off/on camera, phone, bluetooth, wifi, reseting camera, deleting cache, pairing the devices again, reinstalling app, changing the wifi band to 2.4Ghz) to no avail. But when I try again and again, I manage to get a different error message:

 

Let's try something else.

Your camera's Wi-Fi band is set to 5.8GHz but your device or region may not support it.

(...)

[ Retry at 2.4GHz ]

 

Interestingly, the camera IS already set to use 2.4GHz. I try anyway and finally get to:

 

We couldn't connect to your GoPro.

When I look at wifi networks available, the camera's network doesn't appear among them -- but I'm not sure if it is supposed to.

 

Possibly useful technical details: camera is GoPro Hero8 Black, GoPro app version is 6.18, phone is Samsung A10s with Android 10 (same results with an older Asus phone with Android 7).

 

Please advise.

Were you able to try setting the camera to 5GHz?

When the wireless connection is ON, the Wi-Fi name of the camera should also appear on the phone's wireless settings.

 

What firmware version is your camera on?

Would you be able to send a screen recording or a screenshot of the error?

I tried both 5GHz and 2.4GHz without success.

When the wireless connection is on, the camera's wifi name doesn't appear on the phone's wireless settings (nor on my Windows PC, nor my Macbook Pro).

Firmware version is 01.60

Hello @yan78717. Please try to manually connect to your GoPro camera's Wi-Fi. To do this, send the GoPro App to background then open the Wireless Connection settings on your phone and manually connect to your GoPro camera's Wi-Fi. Once connected, switch back to the GoPro App. Let us know how it goes.

Hello, @jamesr175. There should not be any more issues with pairing your camera to the GoPro app. Which phone are you using and which OS is it on? Do you have the latest version of the app installed?

 

 

If you haven't yet, try manually connecting to the camera's WiFi network.  Send the app to the background and manually connect to the camera from your phone’s WiFi settings. You can find the password by putting the camera in pairing mode, then hitting the Info button on the camera.

Can you please check the Camera Info?

Preferences> Connections> Camera Info

 

See if you'll be prompted with an error message.

No error message, it just shows the camera name and password as I would expect.
