USB powered Hero 5 with battery installed
[ New ]Hi. I am using several Hero 5's that are plugged in via HDMI for monitoring. They are on 24/7 powered via USB. My issue is that the power cuts out occasionally so the cameras need to be turned back on, which is a pain.
My question is, are there adverse effects to keeping the battery in whilst constantly USB powered? We have kept them out originally to avoid overheating or anything, but because of this issue we are considereing leaving the battery in, but need to know if being on 24/7 is a bad idea.
Thanks
Jonny

Re: USB powered Hero 5 with battery installed
[ New ]Hello @sweetbluff1861,
From user-shared experience, one observation is that some power banks (if you have these as power source as opposed to direct AC source) tend to not recognize that the battery needs charging after it has been fully charged once, causing the camera to stop working after battery is depleted, even if the camera is still connected with the power bank.
The only issue with using an AC as power source with the battery in the camera is overheating. Normally, the camera gets hot when in operation, more so when being charged while in use. But if you can provide ample space around the camera for airflow, and a way to regulate the temperature, it should be fine.
Thanks,
Marius
