Sorry about the confusion. Some of the post and comments can be misleading and confusing as this is an open forum with very little restriction on what can be posted. Sometimes members take advantage of this and make post that are neither helpful or with much tact.
As far as the Hero6 Black, it is an excellent camera and certainly worth an upgrade from the Hero5. Don't get me wrong, I really like my Hero5 Black, but I absolutely love my Hero6. GoPro did a brief promotion to assist users of legacy cameras upgrade to cameras capable of utilizing Quik Story on the GoPro mobile app. I don't anticipate there being a trade up program for the Hero5 to Hero6 as both cameras have the Quik Story compatibility built in.
If you are considering the Hero6 Black, I suggest purchasing from a local store like Best Buy that has a good return policy. Update the firmware and test the camera for a few days. If you are like me, it wont take long for you to realize just how much better the Hero6 is over all other action cameras. If not, simply return the camera. If you do decide to keep it, you can easily sell your Hero5 on Craigslist, ebay, or other service. Or, you can make somebody's day and gift them the Hero5

i have a hero 5 black, how much would it be to trade it in for a hero 6 black? thanks
Only time will tell and byte you in the butt.
We now can purchase from $549.99 retail at sale $499.99 and Now lost earnings and in trouble... a lowered price of $399.99
If GoPro would have made an trade up at 40% off. $219 off. $329.99 would be exactly where it be today for that. Limited the trade to an expiration like they did prior. Then they would have met their 2017 profit goal. They still can. while any new person would be paying about %50.00 more their price .they are at now.
Nothing by miss leading called opinions from posters they feel they need to talk postive no matter what about a product they die for.
A lot of walks and lost sales.

it doesn't quite work like that. yes sales will increase, but profit won't as they will be basically giving away new models eating into the profit margin. Plus what do you expect GoPro to do with the discontinued models they get back, thats still lost money they can't do anything with

I wrote a pretty lengthy response but decided to delete it. Your presentation pretty much speaks for itself. I don't need to point out the obvious.
