I have pretty similar issue even after updating firmware to 1.55 and doing factory reset.
Ocassionally, when I turn on the device, touch screen works flawlessy without any issues and the rest of the times, touch screen is barely responsive - swipe down, left or right barely works (if swipe down works, I cannot click any of the buttons or button are not responsive, e.g. preferences button just highlights after the touch and does nothing - have to click mode button to exit, but then prefernces list appears, however, it is again unresponsive, cannot click nor scroll down - have to press mode button to finally exit)

My touchscreen is just black. No menus or anything. The upper left corner whiter. So it looks like there is just a malfunction of the touchscreen. It worked fine when I first got it. Then the second time I turned the camera on, nothing.
Tried updating the firmware and factory reset. Changed the battery and the SD card. Nothing.
