Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Hi everyone,
I'm the owner of a HERO 5 and a HERO 3 silver, and this is my first message ;)
My HERO 3 Silver suddently started to fail doing a loop in a video. The option is activated, the SD card is formatted (empty), and it works a week before but not now. The card is a 64Gb Sandisk Extreme.
I tryed to re-format the SD Card, to reinstall the HERO 3... with other SD Card, but the result is alwais the same. When the card is full then the HERO 3 just stop, and when it goes ON again, I can see the message FULL in the display.
The long video session is with a external power battery that give me hours of continue session.
Thanks for all,
Jordi

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Hello @jordif52,
Welcome to the GoPro Support Hub!
It is odd for the camera to suddenly not work with looping. Does it matter which time interval option you set for the looping video? Have you checked to make sure that Protune is not on? Were you able to successfully manually update the firmware of your HERO3 Silver camera? The SD card that you are using is among the recommended ones according to the this list so we are good with that. See if formatting the card both on the camera and on a computer will help. You can find instructions below:
Also see if you get a different result by using a different SD card, if available. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Marius

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Hi Marius, thanks to reply my post.
I have the same result with other SD card. The loop option works until 1 week ago, with two different SD cards with the same capacity.
I tryed to format the SD card from the computer and from the HERO3... protune is off and today I reinstall the 3.00 version firmware.
Thanks again,
Jordi

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Glad to hear back from you, @jordif52. Appreciate you going through the steps. Is the looping video not working for all the time intervals?

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Hello!
I have already limited the problem. Thanks to everyone for helping me.
I tried to make a 2 hour video with a 5 minute loop, and instead of having 5 files of 1 minute each, I had 2 x 60 minutes = 120 video files of 1 minute each.
The problem is that the camera can not erase the files ... Format if it works, but delete files one by one not.
I hope to have explained.
Has the same thing ever happened to someone?

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Great findings, @jordif52. This is associated with chaptering, which the GoPro camera does automatically when a certain file size is reached. For a HERO3 camera, a looping set to 5 minutes will create 1 minute-long chapters. This article on File Chaptering Information discusses this behavior in more detail.

Re: Suddently, my gopro hero3 can't loop video
[ New ]Hello @mariustanya,
thanks for answering. I appreciate your dedicating your time and interest.
The issue is that if I put that I want to make a 5 minute video and make 1 minute chapters, when I stop the recording I understand that I should delete all the chapters except the last 5. And do not erase them ...
Usually with my HERO3 I would loop the MAX, and it would make 17 minute chapters to fill the memory card, and then erase the first chapter to make a new one. This is the desired behavior.
Now (from a week ago) what it does to me is that when it reaches the maximum size of the card the video stops and the message of FULL appears ...
This is why I think the problem is in the deletion of files, it is not managing correctly.
Thank you,
Jordi
