Standby battery life while linked to smart remote

So I have a GoPro session 5 and a hero 7 black that I set up for bow hunting. They both begin recording when I hit the smart remote, but while I’m sitting in my deer stand for a couple of hours the cameras seem to die. Did I miss something in the Manuel about conserving the battery life? They are not recording at all, so I’m guessing that bec they are linked wirelessly to the remote, the battery is depleting. Any suggestions??

Re: Standby battery life while linked to smart remote

If you stop recording but the camera is still powered on, you'll still run through your batteries pretty quickly.  Everything is still active on your camera, it's just not performing a read/write operation.  So when you stop recording you should also power off the remote, in turn, this will power off your camera's.  The camera's will still maintain a low power bluetooth connection but only for so many hours (I think officially it's 8 hours, but it could be less).  Still, during this time the camera is still in a standby mode and yes, this will also consume battery power, just not as much as when it is turned on but not recording.

Re: Standby battery life while linked to smart remote

Thanks! I’m always afraid of breaking any kind of communication btwn the remote and cameras since they are on the ground and I’m in the tree. I’ll try powering down the remote next time!
