When the Karma drone was a major disaster for GoPro their stock took a HUGE dive. So much so that they took it off the market.
Imagine if they admitted to a huge problem with their number one product, the Hero. Stock prices would PLUMMET. Wonder why we all get ZERO real support for all the Hero freezing problem? Stock price. They are ignoring us. Ignore a major problem and stock prices stay up.
What are your options? If you bought it from GoPro your have one, and only one option. Warranty replacements. You will NEVER get a refund due to two policies. First, the refund policy is 30 days. You have 30 days to request a refund. That request will be denied as their other policy is to force you to accept a warranty replaccement. That warranty replacement will take longer than 30 days. Guess what? You are now screwed. You will never receive a refund and HOPEFULLY one day you might actually recieve a fully working camera. Good luck there.
Stock plummets on failure of Karma drone:

Karma was recalled because it had a fault that was due to the design. Although I see a few people complaining about the Hero 7 Black freezing, its not everyone (mine works fine) so obvious to me its not a design/hardware issue
I'm not sure why, but people pay more money to own a GoPro but become tight gits when it comes to SD cards. I'll admit i've done it my self & bought a few SanDisk Ultra SD cards, but they can't cope with the high amount of information the GoPro tries to save

Appreciate your perspective. In my case the SD card has nothing to do with the freezing as I don't even have to have a card in or even be recording when it will freeze. I can be MTBing and want to record and try to do so with no recording, It just freezes, on it's own while just sitting there, or jostling around on my bike. Seems to be a gyro/accelerometer/firmware issue. I'm only recodng at 1080 so the fastest card on the market should be able to capture 1080.

i use my Hero 7 Black everyday as a dashcam, i record in 4k Superwide, GPS on, voice control on & no problems. Possibly once a month it'll freeze, but wipe & format the card in the GoPro & its fine for about another month (so a card issue)

I think you are spot on wit the card formatting idea... Tried to record a long hyperlapse riding a bicycle yesterday (at 30x). Have not formatted the card in a while and camera froze after recording for about 13 minutes. Did not notice until after finished the ride :-(
mine only does it once a month, & not really important enough to warrant me formating the card every day. I just wait till it freezes, get off what footage I can then reformat in the camera, then as said works fine for another month
If I'm doing any important filming then I'll reformat before just in case. That to me is obviously a card issue

I did the trade up. and yes I returned my camera just before my 30 day ran and I got a full refund, and lost my broken crap cam that I sent in pieces to gopr they said any camer any condition.
Yes I bought another later on and yes I got an issue and yes I used my warranty and yes i am now with a working camera. all four gopros work Happy
I understand you got a bad one, and freezes and I understand it is not a card issue? Get a replacement and sell if it fails to work take a small loss. because I hear people complaining about a smudge in the front screen on more then two......
