Shadows when stitching 360 video, GoPro Max

[ New ]

Hi guys, I just received my cam 3 days ago and I noticed something weird on 360 video, just 360 video, no reframed videos, or pictures, etc. There is like a shadow when a object ccrosses the stitching line, I am pretty sure it is a software issue because as I said it is not happening on pictures or reframed videos, but I was expecting something like a small line or glitch when an obejects crosses the stitching line but not this. Videos are exported with GoPro app and I am using iOS, anyone of you have the same behavior? here are some examples:

That's a stitching issue, this can be caused by objects too close to the camera, too low a light source or a low light source on one side of the camera and a bright light source on the other side of the camera.  Helps to keep the camera and pole vertical when shooting and not horizontal.

It is not the case, it is happening all the time, indoor, outdoor and also with objects far away from lens

Same issue here. I thought it was caused by the lenses cover at first since the lines were circled

nope, it is happening with or without covers and I have tried everything and it is always the same. I have been playing with config, I also have used windows, mac, ios and android to export it and same result.

At least your horizons look level. Mine don’t see the shadows as much but notice my arm and charging cable aren’t leveled when looking via live view through my app. Have you noticed this too?

It’s worth noting that this issue persists only in the in-app downloaded footage (before any rendering or reframing). It dissolves once it’s rendered. Still curious if this is normal and what causes it technically.

the issue with shadows is never gone on 360 footage just when reframing.

I got the same issue.

I stay in one open area and shot 360 video, 360 photo.

That 360 photo no obvious shadows issue.

That 360 video got shadows in the video when I downloaded it and watch it on my iPhone XR gopro app.

That 360 video got shadows in the video when I uploaded it to youtube by my iPhone XR gopro app.

That 360 video doesn't have that obvious shadows in the video when I reframe it in 1080P by my iPhone XR gopro app. (Sure I keep pointing the shadow area it uses to have when I reframe it)

That 360 video doesn't have that obvious shadows in the video after I downloaded it from the sd card & watched it by gopro player on my macbook pro.

I think that is an app issue on IOS.

Someone said Andriod got no issue on this (I haven't fact-checked).

Anyway, anyone from Gopro can make a comment on this?

yes I just checked on my mac with gopro player app and shadows are reduced, there is still a slight difference in contrast on the stitching line but not as big as the one on ios devices

But stitching line is more notisable when using macbook app as you can see here:

And the camera was like at 3 or 4 meter away from there.

Yes , I can clearly confirm the exact behaviour . It is visible under any lightsituation and regardless how far or near the object is, but the more the lower the light is .

It is clearly a stitching problem, but the way the 2 lenspictures are overlapping.....looks like the lumavalues are beeing added.

@bluewater86456 @alucard866 @nkllok @murtadaa1724 @sharpflash481

Sorry about that.

- For Preview / Live: you will see the stitching line - the live preview doesn't have the final stitching, the full / final and clean stitching is applied when you areactually recording.

- The issue with the shadow is also related to stitching, the team is working on it for the next firmware update. I do not have the info about when this will be out though.

Yes the issue is still there and I think the stitching line is looking worst than before. I just had a RMA about the shadows on the stitching line and I received my replacement yesterday, that issue was solved but I still see the misalignment on the stitching line and also on objects that are far away the lens.

Something I have also noticed is that stitching is doing a better job when there is more movement on the scene, I mean if am running, in a bike, driving, etc. Those issues on the joint are almost gone.
