I've had my Session 5 for 18 months now, but it is turning into a deeply unhappy experience.
The biggest problem is its overheating when recording 4k/25 ... today, it was turned on for 8 minutes (streaming to iPod), started a 4k/25 recording and it shut down after only 7 minutes. In fact I've lost a couple of irreplaceable recordings because of this shut-down issue. This was in open air around 20C.
I wouldn't mind, but the image quality/resolution is generally poor and certainly not up to 4k standards (my Raspberry Pi $25 camera produces sharper images when carefully tested against it). Turn on ProTune, and the results are awful.
Do I have a duff camera, or is this par for the course ... and is there any fix for the overheating.
Sorry if this offends GoPro devotees, but I feel like I've thrown a ton of money down the drain.

I've done those checks and a whole lot more so far.
I'm now doing some rather more complex tests, but it seems to me that it's simply the overheating issue - not really surprising as the design appears to have limited heat dissipation ability.
I'm also doing some objective tests on the image quality, but so far they're coming out very poor.
I'll probably report back when I have something definite and repeatable
