Session 5 Freezes Video and Won't Turn Off

Hi,

 

I have my Session 5 about a month now and it keeps freezing when I record video at random times. Sometimes it will last about 20 minutes, sometimes 10 seconds. Once it freezes the camera cannot be turned off or reset by holding either of the buttons for any length of time and I'm left to wait for the battery to die before I can use it.

 

This has happened on three seperate trips now meaning I've been able to get home with little to no footage.

 

I used the app to update it to v2.0 when I got it and have tried formating the card throught the GoPro and via my Mac.

 

I read that you can manually update the software but when I type in my serial number the website says it is invalid.

 

I've had the camera freeze when shooting at 1080p 30fps and 60fps. Protune and Superview are always on an the card is genuine Samsung class 10 U3 card that's always performed perfectly.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

When you go to the update page you need to use the drop down menu on the top right of the page to select your camera. The default is Hero5 Black so this is why it's not working.

The only Samsung cards that are tested to work with your camera are the Samsung Pro and Pro Plus. Using a card not on the recommended list may or may not work, however it can't be ruled out as a source of the problem until you use a tested card. If you continue to use a card not on the recommended list you may get some use out of it but I can pretty much guarantee you will have issues.

I've had great performance using Lexar 1000x and Samsung Pro.

I can't find the black box but you are right, support sent me a link to the session update page and the serial worked. I've done the software update and factory reset and have 25mins of recording so far which is a good sign. 

 

I had the card before the camera and just hoped it would work, looking online the card recommeded by reviews for GoPros so I'm hoping it will work well.
