Hi @daringboos2536

Please ensure that the SD card is not inserted between the SD card slot and the battery as this can put pressure on the back of the touch display.

If it's not the case, a manual update is the next step. Please refer to https://gopro.com/update/

You may also reach out to our Support Team for further assistance.

Thanks!

its not inserted between SD cardslot and the battery, but! after reading your post when i took the battery out and press a little on the side side of the cardslot the screen flickered and for a milisecond there was a picture but then disappeared again,  is this a known problem for the gopro?

With the 5, 6, and 7, it was easy to mistakenly slide the card in between/behind the SD card slot and the camera.  This forced the display ribbon cable to come loose resulting in the black screen.  The user may not even know this had happened, they would assume a camera error, remove the card, re-insert and by the, the camera screen would not be working.

This could be what happened here but support will be able to tell you more.
